With all the hinds set stocked in their fawning paddocks, we anxiously wait for the appearances of the first fawns.  We know that the hinds conceal the fawns so well that they maybe seven days old before we see the first ones tottering after their mothers. Sure enough the first fawns are spotted toward the end of the first week in November, but another two weeks pass before we see many more.  The general consensus among other deer farmers in New Zealand is that fawning has been later this year, possibly due to the dry autumn we had earlier on in the year.
